Just like one heated body can give heat nearby object similarly power of austerity can be delivered by knower of austerity. That's why one must practice austerity in the form of chanting Hari Nam thinking that supreme spiritual master is Krsna and His holy name
PURPORT:
Everybody needs to learn formal education from bonafied master. If this master is one spiritual master who had power of austerity then that is always good to accept him as spiritual master. One heated body only can give heat to other lowly heated body. That is the rule of nature. But if one is already very hot then that can not accept heat from lowly heated body. That's why everybody can not become spiritual master of everybody. That is not possible. The person who can become spiritual master he must be on giving side because he has many things to give. Similarly, the person who will become disciple of one spiritual master he must receive what master has given. Thus the person should be on receiving side. In the Vedic system the spiritual master seats always on elevated place and the disciples seat on ground. The reason is that spiritual master always giver but not receiver of spiritual knowledge. Always spiritual master should receive knowledge from higher spiritual sources and deliver to his own followers. It is also possible that one devotee can accept one spiritual master and later because of his devotion to supreme Lord Hari achieves more spiritual power of austerity. That is possible because Krsna is highest spiritual master simply because of His higher source of spiritual power. When Krsna gives that spiritual power to one devotee then definitely the devotee achieved the power of Krsna. If one high school teacher who has Bachelor degree meets his PHD student who was once very favorite to him, then the teacher first embraces the student thinking that this student glorified not only the master but also the entire school. If the student is very humble and wise in spiritual knowledge he must offer obeisances to the teacher by thinking that because of his good fortune he could learn from this favourite teacher and because of his grace he could move forward in his learning. But if the same teacher if he meets one student who is also PHD but was never favorite to him then what should be the mood of the teacher? The teacher if he is wise, again will do the same what he did to his favorite student by repenting that he could not recognize the actual potency of this student very early. And if such student offers obeisances to the teacher because of his humbleness then the teacher must accept him as a lesson that Lord's favorite is everybody, no one is greater or big because of his teaching. Even though the teacher is the master to the student but the student knows the higher master then him may be early or from his previous birth. Thus it the spiritual master who must be wise enough to see the potencies within the student not from its current birth but also from his previous many births. Krsna had accepted formal teaching from a spiritual master who was wise enough to know the potencies within Krsna. Thats why one must be careful to become spiritual master to accept proper student by judging the potency of the student properly. Otherwise one has to repent later. Even Maharishi Garg Muni did not accept Krsna as his disciple though he was knowing that Krsna is Avatar. He sent Krsna to Sandipani Muni and asked Him to accept Sandipani Muni as spiritual master. In that context Prbaupada said "Even Krishna, whom we accept as the Supreme Lord, had to go to gurukula and serve the spiritual master as a menial servant by accepting His spiritual master who is greater than Him". All glory to Krsna! All glory to Maharishi Garg! All glory to Sandipani Muni! All glory to Prabhupada! All glory to Mohaprabhu! All glory to Narahari Narashima Dev! All glory to Pancha Tattva!
